ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

Sammamish Valley Alliance and 21 Acres are partnering for the fourth annual Sammamish Valley Seed Swap, Saturday, March 7, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Hosted at 21 Acres in Woodinville, this event is in conjunction with 21 Acres Market’s monthly First Saturday activities. It is free for all gardeners and small-scale farmers, for anyone interested in seeds even if you’re not planting this year. Bring any seeds you have and would like to share (please no GMO or any treated seeds).

A DIY seed packet station will be set up. Please bring a few pieces of recycled paper to make your individual seed packets. If you don’t have any seeds yet, that’s okay, there will be plenty to share. If you’ve never been to a seed swap, here is information and the rules:

-A microscope will be available to observe under a lens.

-Bring cleaned/hulled seeds that are no more than three years old.

-Seed company seeds in their original packaging are fine.

-Seeds collected from your garden are great as long as they were not collected from hybrid plants (because they won’t reproduce correctly). Heirloom seeds are terrific!

-Include as much info about the seeds as you can (botanical and varietal name if you have it, where they grow, how many days to harvest, year collected, etc.)

-Bring envelopes or other packaging to put your seeds in.

-This is a No-GMO seed swap.

In addition to the Seed Swap, other activities for First Saturday include Youth Farm Class, “We Love Seeds!,” 10 a.m.; Green Building Tour, 11 a.m.; Nutritionist’s Roundtable with Emilyanne, “Are Fad Diets Sustainable,” Noon; Basics of Homesteading with Hawthorn Farm, “Meat Rabbit Q & A,” 1 p.m.; along with several artisan food and craft vendors.

21 Acres is located at 13701 NE 171st St., Woodinville, WA. First Saturdays in the Farm Market are special days each month and mostly a day to have fun with your friends and neighbors, and March gives us a good excuse to celebrate the coming of spring!
